The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) have been adopted by many states, including California, but numerous questions remain about how state and local administrators, professional developers, developers of instructional materials and assessments, and teachers will implement the new standards.
The Stanford NGSS Assessment Project (SNAP), funded by S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation and Bill and Melnda Gates Foundation, focuses on ways that high-quality performance assessment can support the implementation process. Professor of Practice Physcs and Astrophysics, Emerita, Helen Quinn and Kamalachari Professor Of Science Education, Emeritus, Jonathan Osorne, were the leaders of SNAP work.
Dr. Helen Quinn discusses NGSS and the role of performance assessment.
